To work within the Infrastructure Delivery Team providing database infrastructure and support to Development teams and other Infrastructure teams. To deliver the Database infrastructure to support new and upgraded services ensuring availability and capacity meet business requirements.
Reporting into the Infrastructure Delivery Manager, the Senior Database Administrator will work within the IT Delivery area on multiple projects and be responsible for the successful implementation of the DBA work throughout the entire project life cycle. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to work alongside the Database Administration Team to manage and improve PayPoint's mission critical SQL & Mongo database services ensuring availability and capacity meet business requirements. This role includes the support, administration and improvement of the development and test database services through to production deployment.
Strong SQL Server experience and knowledge is essential. Candidates must demonstrate experience of working with large, highly available databases that have high transaction rates. Candidates must also show experience with complex bespoke database design and administration.
Work with Project Managers to produce detailed project plans.
Identify and document Non-functional requirements and SLAs.
Produce high and low level Infrastructure designs in collaboration with other technical teams to meet the requirements of the project.
Consider the capacity implications of proposed developments, and specify amendments to ensure business needs are met.
Follow and enforce standards to ensure that solutions are Efficient, Flexible, Maintainable, Secure and that Data Integrity is maintained.
Provide expert knowledge to Development teams to ensure designs follow best practice and to help resolve complex issues.
Build database infrastructure components in Development, Test and Production environments.
Test database infrastructure components to prove they meet agreed requirements.
Support the testing of new software developments and ensure that the database components of the delivery match the original design.
Plan and implement the transition in to Production service, including knowledge transfer to support teams, ensuring that risk and service outages are minimised.
Provide Support during warranty periods for newly implemented services.
Administration of all database Servers including
Effective and efficient maintenance & management to optimise performance.
Troubleshoot incidents. Experience with SQL Profiler and Windows Performance Monitor essential.
Provide On call support and be available for implementations outside of working hours.
Planning, testing and implementation of installations, patches and upgrades.
Define, maintain and test Disaster Recovery processes and procedures.
Ensuring backup and archiving processes are maintained to meet the agreed policy and recommending changes to the policy as circumstances require.
Ensure that SQL Server security and database activity monitoring is in line with PayPoint security policies.
Manage replication of data for MIS.
Represent the Database Management Team at meetings with other members of the IT Departments as well as internal business users and external suppliers and clients.
Produce cost effective options, recommendations and benefits cases to support expenditure requests and project initiation.
Coaching of members of the IT Operations and Development Departments to increase the level of database server knowledge across the departments.
Contribute to the overall IT strategy and budget planning.
Develop new and existing policies and procedures to meet the continuing needs of the business.

SQL Server (2005 to 2014)
Always on Availability Groups and Database Mirroring
SQL Server Replication, Security, Profiler
SQL Server performance tuning and optimisation
Ability to review and analyse complex stored procedures.
Database Design & Development
Minimum 5 years SQL Server Experience
Strong problem solving skills
Working knowledge of ITIL
Basic knowledge of Windows Server 2008 to 2012 System Administration
High Level understanding of VMWare virtualisation
